In a year of anew, we in the Snyder house are trying various things including new food options. Now the male aspect of our household is very particular in their bland foods while us ladies enjoy food with, well, more flavor.
So I decided to grab that coupon code that has been resurfacing on Facebook week after week for Hello Fresh a meal service that provides you with all of the necessary ingredients and instructions to cook restaurant quality meals at home. I figured when I first started looking into it that we’d probably never be able to afford such a luxury but then if you do the math, I normally spend about $175-$200 on groceries per week, yes that’s PER WEEK. For the “Classic” Three Meals a Week plan for two adults we paid $59.94, that’s roughly $20 a meal for the five of us. It’s normally $60-$70 for us to go out to eat at a restaurant for one meal. So if you are thinking like I was when I first looked at those ads, let me tell you it IS affordable. You can also “skip” a week, if you are going out of town or have other meals planned for next week just skip it without any penalties or closing the account.
So all three meals came delivered to my front door Tuesday morning in one large heavy box. Inside the box was a disposable thermal liner and three individual boxes labeled for each meal. It was soooo awesome how the boxes had everything from fresh produce to season packets and cans of diced tomatoes and pasta packs. Everything was pre-measured according to the recipe card and most meals took about 30-40 minutes of work and BAM! Dinner was on the table.
As for the meals themselves they were delicious even the kids and the hubby liked them. I even got the Hubs to try kale (he didn’t like it but he tried it that’s what counts). And we had leftovers!!!!! The pasta dish we had filled a 9×13 pan!
The quality of the ingredients supplied by Hello Fresh were great, I had anticipated not as good produce. We even have leftover herbs to use on our “off” days. I love to cook and this just takes the stress out of “I’m really hungry for this but I don’t have all of the ingredients.” Everything was at my fingertips, no searching for “what to do with chicken breast” for tonight’s dinner. This falls great into my weekly menu planning that instead of coming up with seven dinner ideas I come up with three, have three from Hello Fresh and have leftovers one night, now how simple can it get?
